14 Jun Brazil wins the 54th CISM World Military Sailing Championship
On Wednesday June 14, 2023, the fifth and final day of the 54th CISM World Military Sailing Championship was held with good breeze under a sunny sky in Piraeus, Greece. As expected, the strongest competition was between the top four teams that sailed today in a Match racing format. The grand final was between Brazil and Greece and the small final between Italy and France.
In the grand final, the Brazilian team prevailed over the Greek team with a score of 3-0. The Greek crew tried to pressure their opponents, but the experience of the Brazilians helped them to respond to the difficulties of the race and win through with relative comfort.
In the small final, the Italian team, being quite superior to the subsequent French team, did not encounter any issues and won the third place with ease and a score of 2-0.
After the last day of the championship, Pilot Stelios Sotiriou HN, skipper of the Greek team, agreed that he is very pleased with the silver medal and that his team worked hard and tried to make it as challenging as they could for the Brazilian team.
Team Brazil crew member Sergeant Georgia Rodrigues da Silva was thrilled with her team’s victory. She also mentioned that the organization of the Championship was incredible and the level of competition quite high.
The end of the Championship finds Team Brazil on the top of the podium, followed by Greece and Italy in the third place.
Nine teams representing Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Ukraine and the hosting country of Greece competed in variable sailing conditions at “Falirikos Ormos” – Faliron Bay from June 10th through June 14th, 2023.
