On Thursday, June 8, 2023, in the framework of the 54th World Military Sailing Championship, a unique side event of a rowing tour took place with the Trireme “Olympias” of the Hellenic Navy in Faliron Bay.

“Olympias” is a reconstruction of an ancient Athenian trireme. The ride was enjoyed by all the delegations of the countries that will participate in the 54th World Military Sailing Championship. In this way, today’s military athletes were given the opportunity to become part of Greek Naval History and as other “Argonauts” to feel the awe of an Ancient Greek warship.

The delegations were later guided to the Hellenic Maritime Museum, where they had the chance to admire more than 2,500 exhibits, sorted chronologically and thematically, items which are living proofs of the Maritime History and Tradition of our Country from Prehistoric times to the present day. Additionally, all visitors were impressed by the 17,000 volumes of books of the Museum as well as by the outdoor exhibits, such as the gun turret of the historic submarine “Papanikolis” as well as ship anchors from the time of the Battle of Navarino.
